From the top of the rainforest canopy to the dazzling corals on the ocean floor, the Daintree Coast combines breathtaking beauty with exceptional diversity and offers a unique holiday destination. It’s here that the World Heritage Listed Wet Tropics rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef. Think lush emerald rainforest, white sandy palm-fringed beaches and turquoise lagoons around fringing reef. Think an amazing holiday destination with a wide range of engaging, fun, adventurous and inspiring activities. Most of the businesses here are owner-operated, so the one thing you’ll find they have in common, is a passion for this unique environment that’s contagious.
Around 17,000 hectares between Daintree River and Cape Tribulation is declared National Park and much of the area is also World Heritage listed, to ensure protection of the rainforests which have been evolving for the past 135 million years. Plants representing all stages of evolution over the last 400 million years, are found here. Every day we learn more about this weird and wonderful ecosystem and the amazing species that live here.
The Daintree Ferry, the only cable ferry in tropical Australia, provides access to the Daintree from the south. As you cross the river it feels like stepping into another world and a different civilisation. You’ll leave behind power lines and all signs of suburbia and take a narrow winding road past ancient ferns, towering giants, exotic fruit farms, cascading streams and crystal clear creeks, with glimpses of the Coral Sea beyond.
To truly understand this spectacular rainforest, we invite you to stay, listen to the sounds that surround you and let the magic of the Daintree seep into your soul. Hidden in the wilderness is a diverse range of unique and imaginative boutique resorts, holiday homes and B&Bs to suit every taste and budget.
Jungle Surfing is a proud member of the Daintree Marketing Cooperative, so to make the most of your visit to our region, we recommend that you start by exploring our Destination Daintree website, which offers a wealth of information about what to expect, places to stay and an amazing variety of things to do.
